Disaster resilience: a national imperative

This book addresses the broad issue of reducing the impacts of disasters in the United States by investing in the enhancement of the nation's disaster resilience. Issues addressed: (i) the definition of national resilience; (ii) describing the state of knowledge about resilience to hazards and disasters; (iii) the main issues related to increasing resilience in the United States; (iv) the goals, baseline conditions, or performance metrics for national resilience; and (v) the additional information, data, gaps, and obstacles that need to be addressed to increase the nation's resilience to disasters. This book concludes by making recommendations about the necessary approaches to elevate national resilience to disasters in the United States.
